>> i am stan stovall. thank you for joining us this morning. >> i will get into the specifics about the hurricane in just a second. this will not be like isabelle. this storm will pass east of us. this might be one of those situations where the beaches are getting hammered and almost nothing is happening in baltimore. it depends on the exact track. we do expect a chance for some rain today. 73 right now and dry at the present time. we expect some showers this morning and a better chance towards lunch time. take an umbrella with you. high temperature, 85. more on irene when i come back momentarily. first we say good morning to sarah. >> good morning. a few problems we have been

tracking. philadelphia road in the white marsh area, an accident involving an overturned vehicle. checking out ok on the major roads. we have some closures in lansdown because of fire activity. lansdowne road has been reopened. take washington boulevard if you want to avoid hammond's ferry. a nice start on the west side. 11 minutes on the outer loop west side. eight minutes from 75 towards the 83's. a live view of traffic at old court road. out of the traffic on the west side is building a just a bit. this is the east side of the beltway. all the area bridges are checking out ok.

that is the latest on traffic pulse 11. back to you. >> a tragic and shocking story out of baltimore county. mike flanagan was found dead in his home because police were called to the home on york road yesterday afternoon. police have not officially named the cause of death. mike flanagan took his own life, according to sources. stunned reaction from the orioles family upon hearing the news. peter angelos released a statement -- keith mills will love more on the tragic loss of mike flanagan coming up later in sports.

>> it looks like hurricane irene is weakening a bit but it's is strengthen over warmer open waters with his sights set squarely on the eastern coastline. >> with wind over 100 miles per hour, irene ripped through the bahamas. the powerful hurricane expected to take a turn to the north today, targeting the east coast of the u.s. there are mandatory evacuations in parts of north carolina. >> i am from louisiana and i know all about hurricanes. it can get bad quickly. >> forecasters warned it could get bad along a big stretch of the coast, with tens of millions potentially in its path. >> a lot of our forests is in

the carolinas. all way up through new england states, based upon its track. >> from new york city to new england, they are getting ready for the possibility of a hurricane this weekend. >> it will be one sunday. >> but this one has the potential to be the worst here in years. people along the east coast watching those computer models to see just where irene is tracking. the wind could extend 50 miles or more from the center of the storm. it could cause widespread damage. kristen dahlgren, wbal-tv 11 news. >> we have some breaking news out of lansdown this morning as a fire claims the life of one

person. kim dacey joins us live with the very latest. good morning. >> the fire is out and fire crews are starting to clear up. the fire happened behind us. we're joined now to learn more about what happened. tell me what firefighters found when they got on the scene. >> they found heavy fire in the basement and smoke throughout the entire battalion. they attacked the fire and did a search and rescue. they did find one victim and they removed her from the home. she was a fatality on the scene. another man lives in the home and he was transported to the hospital with potentially serious injuries. >> a firefighter was also injured. >> he was transported to the hospital as well. >> this fire took more than two

hours to put out. that is a long time. >> there were a couple of factors. the fire occurred in the basement. it contributed to the spread of the fire. the fire spread from the basement to the addict -- attic very rapidly. there was inside a gas main that ruptured at some point during the fire and contributed to the fire appeared we were able to fight the fire and have the fire under control. >> it sounds like it was a difficult situation all the way around. what do you guys do now? most of the engines have cleaned up and cleared. >> at this point, the

months. he escaped to a compound where a stranger took him and. >> i do not believe he was tortured. he could hear screams and people being tortured, but i don't think he was mistreated in that way. >> matthews said he was amazed when he was told of the widespread efforts to find him. he will look for regular access to a phone. pockets of tripoli remained volatile. [gunfire] this video shows one of the latest battles near the airport in tripoli. dozens of foreign journalists have been released from my hotel. >> we have been living in fear for the past five days because we were being held against our will buy these crazy gunmen who

are in the lobby of the hotel waving gaddafi flags and wielding assault rifles. they have been hot style at times. >> matthews said he was accused of being a spy. >> police are on the hunt for a man who allegedly sexually assaulted a woman while pretending to be a police officer. police say an august 11, jones attacked a woman. anyone with information on his whereabouts should call baltimore city police. police are looking for whoever stabbed a man. police say a victim was awakened by a home on guilford avenue and went to investigate the noise. it was then that he was attacked and stabbed several times. >> our victim was stabbed

multiple times in the face. the victim was transported to an area hospital. >> the homeowner is listed in stable condition. anyone with information is asked to call baltimore police. >> a new calling book -- a new coloring book is raising eyebrows. there are images of the twin towers on fires and a navy seal team raid on the been on a compound. the publisher said the book is a factual tool to teach children about the war on terror. critics say it portrays all parabs as extremists. that brings us to our water cooler question of the day. do you think the 9/11 attacks and the bin laden compound raid are appropriate subject matter

be strong. let's talk about the hurricane. that will affect us over the weekend. it is moving through the bahamas and it has weakened just a little bit. it is still a category 3 hurricane with sustained winds over 100 miles per hour. there will be a tremendous amount of damage coming out of the bahamas. the storm track has not changed much. we expected to come over cape hatteras late friday or early saturday morning. late saturday night, off the delmarva coast. some time on sunday morning, there will likely be a category two hurricane sitting off the coast of ocean city with sustained winds between 80 adn 105 miles per hour. the eastern part of the hurricane contains the strongest wind. that will stay to our east.

we will not get a big surge up the chesapeake bay. they could be getting pounded at the beaches and hardly anything is happening in western maryland. i think the worst weather will be at the beach. 5 to 10 inches of rain. 60 to 90 miles per hour when a gust. a week surge up the chesapeake bay. no rain in western maryland. it will probably trained in baltimore. -- it will probably rain in baltimore. a mixture of sunshine and clouds today. high temperature around 85. the wind at 10 to 15. a chance for showers and thunderstorms tonight with a temperature around 70.

bridge. the east side is running smoothly across the key bridge. no delays at the bay bridge. that is the latest on traffic pulse 11. >> casey anthony has turned herself in to authorities in florida. she reported to authorities at an undisclosed location. she has largely been in hiding. she was brought back to florida to serve eight years' probation. two people were injured after falling 10 feet to the tarmac at bus angeles international airport. the captain of a flight stepped off the plane. they were taken to hospital where they are said to be in fair condition. the cause of the accident is still underway. a change at the top of apple. the man behind the iphone and

ipad said i quit. steve jobs announced his resignation. he had been on leave after battling pancreatic cancer and undergoing a liver transplant. tim cook replaces jobs as ceo. jobs will be chairman of the board. stan? >> some companies plan to cut health coverage to their workers after 2014. that is one new changes go into effect. one at of 10 plan to make the cuts. 20% are not sure what they will do. this is a look at current attitude and things may change between now and then. the u.s. postal service is

it was off the field or anyone who knew him as one of the rare athletes or ego was replaced by a genuine concern and affection. he was a winner in every way and a friend for life. last night, jim palmer talked- about his longtime friend and teammate. >> he was one-of-a-kind. i'm sorry. i'm sorry for the people that knew him because this is part of being my age and having a chance to be with guys that are that special. that is pretty much all i have to say. is devastating. >> the motion tells that story. we'll hear from cal ripken. scene with more details on the story. >> things are winding down at the scene now that the fire is out. the fire happened just up the street behind us here in lansdown. firefighters got the call around 2:40 this morning. they found a woman dead this morning. a man was taken to the hospital. a firefighter was transported with injuries. a woman lived in the home. they are still trying to understand how this happened. >> we are all shocked. it has not sunk in for a lot of people yet. my mom, she was sitting on the front porch, staring over there. she's to go over there and check on her.

the things he was involved with. everywhere you look here, there's a part of jim. >> the driver initially stopped at the scene but then continued to travel the spirit the vehicle is described as a nissan pathfinder and possibly red in color. it should have damage to the front passenger side. if you have any in formation, you're asked to call metro crime stoppers at 1-866-7-lockup. new information on the disappearance of robyn gardner. photos taken by a tourist have been released. the photos taken on august to show the 35-year-old in a sun dress traveling with gary giordano. officials are hoping that someone will come forward who may have seen gardner after those photos were taken.

a tragic and shocking story out of baltimore county where mike flanagan was found dead. police were called to the home on york road about 4:30 yesterday afternoon. police have not officially named the cause of death. sources say that mike flanagan took his own life. he was despondent over a false his team's of this tea failure. james clea and kareem clea are accused of carrying out the killing of lemuel wallace as part of a scam to collect $1 million in insurance money. many did not return after tuesday's earthquake interrupted the proceedings.

>> good morning. we start in the glen burnie area. there is an accident and possible delays. sycamore street, watch for an accident on the south side of the city. so far so good on the major roadways. this is the topside at greenspring. in the traffic continues to move well towards the j.f.x. not seen many delays in the outer loop. volume is picking up just past 75. everything running smoothly at the toll plaza. that is the latest on traffic pulse 11. now we check in live with ava marie. we're so happy to see her.

do know that. the dynamic duo showing up tonight -- ava marie and sarah caldwell. weather-wise, nothing much is going on. we have some scattered thunderstorms getting ready to move again. take an umbrella with you. we see a lot of activity off to the north and west. we could seek wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour later this morning and into this afternoon. irene is raking across the bahamas with sustained winds of 115 miles per hour. the forecast track has not changed much. it looks like it will go across the outer banks of north carolina and off the coast of the delmarva coast. by sunday morning, we expect a category two hurricane to be

sitting off the coast of ocean city. the strongest part of the storm is in the eastern side of the hurricane. that will be offshore. we will get wind gusts probably close to 100 miles per hour at ocean city. the less the effect of the storm at the further you go west. we probably will get a couple of inches of rain around baltimore and some strong wind. most of the activity will be centered around the eastern shore and ocean city. 5 to 10 inches of rain at the beach. there is going to be significant damage on the delmarva beaches. they may evacuate ocean city if the storm com close. we expect a week surge -- a weak surge up the chesapeake bay.

four hurricane today. a night of heavy wind and rain. hurricane irene battered the bahamas and is heading for the u.s. it is a massive storm, poised to make landfall here by the weekend, anywhere from north carolina -- >> our predictions are not anything but predictions, and we must all prepare for the worst. >> to new york. >> there's likely to be some significant impacts from this storm in terms of winds and rain. >> and so along the eastern seaboard, they're getting ready for the worst -- heavy wind and rain and a dangerous storm surge. >> throw everything in the back of the truck and board it up. that's it. >> even if the eye stays offshore, officials say irene could cause flooding, power outages, or worse as far north as maine. >> right now we are really concerned with the entire east coast. people should take the opportunity, be prepared.
